Government of Ontario

Digital Transformation through
Low/No Code Experience Orchestration

Background

The Government of Ontario, has embarked on a transformative initiative to modernize the digital experience offered to the citizens of Ontario on the ontario.ca domain.  They have been a strong proponent of headless and composable digital architectures, adhering to MACH (Microservices-based, API-first, Cloud-native SaaS, and Headless) principles well before the MACH Alliance became popular. The licensing of a MACH-certified data and API orchestration layer, i.e Conscia’s DXO, marks a significant step in their transformation journey and is a testimony to their commitment to creating an agile and open digital platform.  In a short 9 months, the Government launched 5 unique initiatives involving Long Term Care, Service Ontario, Ontario Courts, License Permits and Expenses.

Challenge

The Government of Ontario’s digital infrastructure relied heavily on legacy file systems, spreadsheets, and databases crucial for existing workflows.  These systems posed a significant challenge in making data available for digital products..

Solution: Low/No Code Digital Experience Orchestration

The Ontario Government chose Conscia’s DXO, a Digital Experience Orchestration solution that bridges the gap between backend data sources and modern front-end digital experiences.  The DXO adds a modernization layer on top of existing legacy systems, which enabled the organization to unlock trapped data from spreadsheets, data files and databases that didn’t offer APIs, making the data inaccessable by modern frontends in a headless architecture. â€‹â€‹â€‹

DX Graph

  • Data Synchronization and Unification: DX Graph integrates with various backend systems, unifying and continuously synchronizing the data.

  • Self-Service Data Enrichment and Classification: It provides tooling for non-technical data owners to validate, enrich and structure the data, making it consumable for different digital platforms.

  • API Accessibility: The unified data is made accessible through powerful APIs, facilitating easy consumption by various clients.

  • Data Governance: Conscia's DX Graph offers robust data governance and sophisticated access control, ensuring compliance and security for sensitive government data.

DX Engine

  • One Experience API: Instead of the frontend having to integrate with various backend services, the DX Engine provides one API that delivers data from all backend systems.

  • Data Contextualization: The DX Engine retrieves data from backend data sources and delivers it based on the context of the user such as language, location, etc.

  • Format Transformation: The DX Engine ensures data is in the format expected by the frontend channel, eliminating the need for custom code for every new channel in the future.

1

Modern Experience

The Ontario Government was able to unlocked trapped data in legacy systems and is now able to roll out modern experiences without having to replatform their existing technology stack.

2

Future-Proof Architecture

They were able to attain perpetual agility, allowing them to add new systems and capabilities to their architecture with ease without having to refactor their frontend code every time.

3

Unparalleled Time to Market

With zero-code integration and orchestration layer, the government has been able to launch new initiatives in weeks rather than months of years at a fraction of cost of alternative methods.

Ontario.ca Products Delivered

The Government of Ontario has been able to deliver various data-driven experiences using Conscia's DXO as the experience layer on top of their existing backend systems.
